Today, I thought I would share my recipe for white bread. I got this one a long time ago at Frugal Families. I even thought to take pictures to show you the progress! It’s very simple and easy to make, and oh so delicious!
This white Bread does not take any special ingredients to make, so it both Frugal and easy to make.
2 cups warm water
5 T white sugar or honey
1 1/2 tablespoons yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup oil
5-6 cups flour
Work in the flour until dough no longer looks wet. Knead on a floured surface until smooth. (If you have a Kitchen Aid mixer, you can actually skip this step.)
Place in a well oiled bowl, turning to coat dough with oil. Cover and allow to rise until doubles, about 1 hour.
Punch dough down. Place on a lightly floured surface and knead again.
Divide in half. Shape into two loaves and place in well oiled loaf pan.
Allow to rise for another hour.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Loaves with be golden brown and sound hollow when done.
This recipe can also be used for rolls and soft breadsticks. You can substitute whole wheat flour for some of the flour if you prefer.
Steph,I am so glad you posted this. I am looking forward to trying it. I have been looking for a simple recipe. Right now I am using 25# bags of Golden Corral mix my dad picked up at food food auction for $4.00 each!!! It is so good. I make 2 dozen rolls and between my husband and two teens they are go in a flash. I almost have to fight them to save 3 too send to some of the shut-in’s in our neighborhood I like to cook for.Take care and God Bless….I am loving you’re blog, it has turned into one of my favorites.Kristal in Southwest Virginia

Stacy, a bread pan helps your bread to rise “up” instead of “out”, but if you’re not worried about the shape and height of your bread, the you could place both loaves into a pan with shallow sides to help keep it from spreading out too much. Just make sure that it’s either large enought to accomodate both loaves or you have 2 pans. If you want your loave to actually look like bread, you can find bread pans at just about any store. And they’re realtively inexpensively. I would recommend that if you really want a good loaf of bread to buy a couple of bread pans. This will give you the best results.
