A Great Family Day

We had a great day today as a family. This morning, we took the kids to Lowe’s for Build & Grow. (They offer this every 2nd & 4th Saturdays of every month, except for December & January – maybe November, too – from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. This if for ages 3-12.) This week, they built a wooden pirate ship. They had a great time as usual.

After that, we came home and got everyone ready to go to the lake. It’s been a long time since we’ve been to the lake, so this was lots of fun. We’re all nice and pink now. I’m sure tomorrow we’ll really be feeling the effects.

Then, we came back home to spend some more quality time together, and finally got a small garden planted. Hopefully something will grow.

Today was not anything really special as far as what we did, but it was special because we made a point of spending the day together as a family. We put all other things aside to spend time with our kids, which is truly special.

Sometimes we, as parents, let life get in the way and we forget what’s really important. So what if all the laundry did not get done today. So what if I didn’t get my housework done. So what if we didn’t get the finishing touches done on the little chicken coop. So what if we did not get more work done on cleaning up/out the storage building. You know, all that stuff will be there tomorrow (and the next day, and the next day…) but our children will only be children for a such a short time. Why not make that special effort to spend more time with your kids? That’s what they’ll remember when their grown, not that the house was clean, or the building cleaned and organized, or the yard mowed. They’ll remember the fun times at the lake, the zoo, a picnic outside in the yard, a fun day at the park.

If you haven’t planned a family day in a while, make sure you do that! Your kids will thank you for it! Have a great weekend everyone!
