BOOK IT! National Reading Program Is Open For Enrollment!

This program is available through Pizza Hut for everyone, including homeschoolers, which children in grades K-6th grades.

From the site:

BOOK IT! motivates children to read by rewarding their reading accomplishments with praise, recognition and pizza.  BOOK IT! is simple for the teacher to use, flexible because goals match reading ability, and fun because achieving a goal is a great reason to celebrate. BOOK IT! was created in 1985 and currently reaches over 10 million students annually.

Simple
BOOK IT! runs every school year from October through March.  The teacher sets a reading goal for each child in the class.  A tracking chart and reproducibles are included to make it that much easier.  As soon as a child meets the monthly reading goal, the teacher gives him or her a Reading Award Certificate.

Flexible
BOOK IT! goals are based on reading ability.  Number of books, number of pages, or number of minutes – they all work.  BOOK IT! can also be used with the reading curriculum or as support for comprehension or intervention programs.  For children not reading independently, the goal can be set where a parent or others read to the child.

Fun
Pizza Hut is proud of all BOOK IT! readers!  The restaurant manager and team congratulate every child for meeting the monthly reading goal and reward them with a free, one-topping Personal Pan Pizza, BOOK IT! card and backpack clip.

Do you know a high school Junior or Senior who would like to knock out 3 college Spanish Credits without setting foot in a classroom (except maybe the one in their home)? Rosetta Stone has partnered with James Madison University, a fully accredited four year institution, to offer college level Spanish 1! Enrollment is now open, and learners can start in as little as 8 days from today! Online courses begin every Monday, and the complete intensive program takes 16-weeks to complete.

In addition to Rosetta Stone online coursework, the program includes live online sessions with a tutor who’s a native Spanish speaker. This beginner-level course also gives students access to their own Success Agents dedicated to helping students succeed in Spanish.

This is a strictly limited offering open to the first 500 students to enroll. In other words, courses begin on Mondays only as long as there are still openings, and once there are 500 students enrolled, no more classes will begin. You will need to follow the syllabus provided to enrolled students, satisfactorily complete the activities and dedicate approximately 45 hours to finish this program.

When are classes held? How flexible is the schedule?

You can get started with the 6 unit course as soon as you complete your purchase and receive your login information. You can also begin to sign up for the regularly scheduled online sessions at your convenience. You will have 16 weeks to complete the class but we won’t slow you down if you’d like to finish ahead of schedule.

Can I withdraw or cancel and still get a refund?

Yes, you can drop within 10 calendar days from your class start date without any notation on your transcript for the class, provided you give written notice to Rosetta Stone by midnight on the tenth day.

Do I need any background in Spanish?

No, this is a beginner course. No background in Spanish is necessary.

Does purchasing online automatically register me for the class?

Not quite, once you complete your online purchase you will receive information on how to apply to James Madison’s University as a non-degree seeking student – necessary to complete the registration process. However, there are no additional fees and it should only take you a few minutes.

This is a great opportunity for homeschoolers, if you can take advantage of it.  Rosetta Stone is an awesome program!
